2026 Kia Seltos Review. The Seltos is starting to step out from under the Cretas shadow

The Hyundai Creta must be acknowledged before discussing the 2026 Kia Seltos. The Creta became more than simply a best-seller; it became a benchmark, not because this is just another sibling analogy.

In order to appear more sophisticated, sub-4m crossovers draw inspiration from the Creta. Before test drives had began, 70,000 reservations were reportedly made for the nostalgic Sierra. It may have been successful as a larger car, but it decided to focus on the Creta’s market because that’s where the majority of sales are.

However, a new market is entered with the 2026 Seltos. Being the more ostentatious sibling isn’t enough; there’s greater rivalry and higher standards. The Seltos now needs to establish itself as a stand-alone vehicle rather than merely a substitute for the Creta.

How, then, did Kia accomplish it? While maintaining the dependable engines from the previous model, the Seltos receives a fresh design, a new platform, and many improvements. Let’s examine it more closely.

Design

Finally making its way to the Seltos, Kia’s “Opposites United” design language feels far more at home here than it did on the Syros. On a bigger body, those square-bracket DRLs that surround the grille and headlamps appear more defined. Rather than enhancing the drama, the proportions absorb it.

Nevertheless, the Seltos continues to play the part of the malevolent sister. Just because families purchase it doesn’t mean Kia has softened it. The face is radical, the stance is aggressive, and the detailing is bold without apology. Customers will become divided as a result, and Kia appears to be completely okay with that.

There are several pixel-like elements on the new “digital” Tiger Nose grille. From the manufacturer, it appears sleek, but if you add too many accessories, it may start to look disorganized. If there is too much chrome, it may look more like a cheese grater or other kitchen appliance than an automobile. You can’t unsee it now, can you?

The gloss-finished cladding surrounding the wheel arches and rocker panels down the sides is a thoughtful balance. Gloss surfaces require maintenance, but matte plastics don’t hold up well in our dusty, hard water environment. They are more prone to scratches and wear more quickly. When you combine it with the elaborate front-end decoration, it becomes evident that owning a Seltos also entails making many trips to the pressure washer.

The bumpers and lighting signatures vary somewhat depending on whether you select the Tech Line, GT Line, or X Line, but the basic silhouette stays the same. The aerodynamic work underneath is less evident. Kia has improved the underbody and updated the roof spoiler to lower the drag coefficient from 0.34 to 0.31. You’ll sense it in efficiency and elegance even if you won’t see it.

The dimensions of the new Seltos are where it stands out the most. With a wheelbase that is 90mm longer than that of the Hyundai Creta and Suzuki Victoris, as well as a substantial 200mm of ground clearance, it now occupies the upper end of the mid-size SUV market. It doesn’t have the same physical heft as the new Tata Sierra, but it seems almost “segment-plus.”

On a hot day, cooling begins as soon as your profile loads because the system even remembers seat ventilation settings.

Clearly, the infotainment system has been enhanced. It’s simpler, quicker, and more user-friendly. There are only the necessities, no clutter, and no endless menus. The search box is helpful if you can’t find what you’re looking for, and it even takes Hindi text.

You will need Apple CarPlay or Android Auto because there is still no built-in navigation. Even if Kia eventually develops its own navigation system, it will most likely rely on the internet via its connection with Airtel rather than actual offline GPS.

For the first three years, connected features are free; after that, they cost roughly?2,000–3,000 annually. You receive practical tools in exchange. The diagnostics panel displays real-time information about the steering, brakes, and engine. Before you choose to continue driving or go to a service facility, your dealer can remotely inspect the vehicle and assess its severity.

Forty electronic modules are now covered by OTA upgrades. These are for system-wide corrections or enhancements based on consumer feedback, not for individual customization. For instance, Kia can issue an update to every vehicle if it wishes to modify the steering feel at a later time. It’s a high-end, contemporary strategy.

Driving

Simply said, the steering is superior. Particularly in the GT trim levels, it’s not overly light or heavy. Instead, for the majority of Indian drivers, it feels perfect.

You immediately see that all four disc brakes are now standard. The brilliant yellow paint job on the calipers makes them stand out. The high-speed braking of the old car felt a little unsteady, but that is no longer the case. Additionally, stopping distances are reduced, according to Kia. You feel considerably more assured, the brakes bite reliably, and the pedal seems smoother.

Level 2 ADAS uses a camera located on the windscreen, two back radars, and a front radar. The technology now keeps an eye on approaching traffic in addition to the well-known adaptive cruise, lane keep assist, etc. If it senses a possible collision path with oncoming traffic during overtakes or at crossroads, it can alert you and gently apply the brakes.

It’s not flawless, but it functions well. The front radar only stares straight ahead until you start turning, so you still need to use your own judgment.

The 1.5-liter naturally aspirated petrol, 1.5-liter turbo-petrol, and 1.5 turbo-diesel engine options are still the same. A 6-speed iMT or a 7-speed DCT are compatible with the turbo-petrol. When used responsibly, the DCT has proven dependable, and it now seamlessly interacts with the diagnostic system. On the other hand, the iMT seems like a compromise. Enthusiasts would have been delighted if a GTX-style model had a true manual transmission.

Additionally, refinement is superior. Although it’s difficult to gauge while driving, Kia claims that the Seltos has a 2dB reduction in cabin noise. The new K3 platform, which is also utilized in vehicles like the Elantra, is responsible for this. It uses stronger steel in certain areas and is safer and stiffer.

Additionally, Kia was able to address a popular criticism about the previous Seltos by softening the suspension thanks to the new platform. The car still handles well, but the ride is considerably more comfortable today. Overall, it feels just as nice as before, if not better, because to the longer wheelbase and lower height.
