2024 Hero Destini 125 first ride review – Well worth considering
The Destini 125 BS4 was first released by Hero MotoCorp in October 2018. In 2020, the scooter was modified to comply with BS6 emission standards. Other than the addition of an LED headlamp and Bluetooth connectivity in March 2022, there had been no major modifications until September 2024, when the all-new Destini 125 was introduced. The Honda Activa 125, TVS Jupiter 125, and Suzuki Access 125/Burgman Street 125 have dominated this market in recent years, but the Hero Destini 125 hasn’t left much of an impression. Will this brand-new model be able to differentiate itself from its competitors? Let’s investigate.
Design
First of all, the new Destini 125 has an entirely new platform and design. According to Hero, it features a neo-retro aesthetic, which has become more and more fashionable in recent years. The new Destini 125 has a unique style in addition to seeming more upscale and contemporary than its predecessor. Although the materials surrounding the handlebar may be of better quality, it has a metal fender and side panels.
The scooter now has an LED headlamp with a projector bulb, H-pattern DRLs, halogen indicators on the front apron, a new seat, chrome bodywork trims, an H-pattern taillight, and, in the top-spec version, a backrest for the pillion. Fresh hues including Eternal White, Cosmic Blue, Regal Black, Mystique Magenta, and Groovy Red are also available. Additionally, there are bronze highlights throughout the top-spec black and white hues.
With a few modifications, the new Destini 125’s wheelbase has grown by 57mm to 1,302mm, and the swingarm pivot point has been moved. It is based on its sibling, the Xoom 110. The rake is also sharper for increased stability and agility. Though I think the floorboard could have been more roomy, the footboard is larger than it was previously, with more room between the front seat and front apron. However, even for two people, the seat is rather roomy.
A half-face helmet or small shopping items can fit in the respectable under-seat storage. A USB Type-A port for charging your phone and a cubby holder for a water bottle are located on the front.
Engine
Hero has entirely redesigned the Destini 125, but it still features the same air-cooled, single-cylinder, 124.6cc engine that produces 9.12 horsepower and 10.4 Nm of torque. To increase refinement and fuel efficiency, the CVT gearbox has been modified. According to ICAT, the new Destini 125 actually has a fuel efficiency of 59 kmpl.
The engine produces linear power and has a smooth feel. Although it provides enough power for daily riding and can ride comfortably at 60–70 kmph, I discovered that it takes some time to increase speed. Even with a pillion, it has little trouble climbing steep hills. Furthermore, there are no issues because the motor is very sophisticated.
Ride & Handling
The suspension of the new Destini 125 is one of its best qualities. It has a rear monoshock and telescopic front forks. Although the rear suspension seemed a little tight, I rode it in Goa, which had some shockingly bad roads, particularly in the northern half. The suspension handled speed bumps and potholes pretty well and smoothed them off. Furthermore, the ride was generally smooth and comfortable at both low and high speeds.
The suspension is perfectly complemented by the new 12-inch tires, which are 90/90-12 up front and 100/90-12 down back. Like the previous model, the new Destini 125 weighs 115 kg, making it feel light when riding or maneuvering in a parking lot. One of the scooter’s USPs, particularly as a family-friendly product, is its lightweight design. One noteworthy feature of the new Destini 125 is how user-friendly the center stand is.
In terms of brakes, the top-spec model has a drum unit in the back and a 190mm ByBre front disc. The rear brake offers sufficient stopping force, but the front disc lacks early bite. The Destini 125 also has a combi-braking system.
Features
I rode the top-spec ZX+ model, which has an inverted LCD display and Bluetooth connectivity for turn-by-turn navigation and call/SMS notifications. Although the text is clear, it might be brighter because screen reflections make it difficult to read in direct sunshine.
Auto-cancelling indicators, LED headlights and taillamps, a USB charging outlet, a boot lamp, an i3s engine start/stop system, and an illuminated engine start button are some of the new Destini 125’s other noteworthy features. Nevertheless, halogen lamps rather than LED units continue to be used as indicators. It’s also important to note that, surprisingly, the top-spec variant lacks the rear brake lock that the lower-spec versions have.
Verdict
The new Hero Destini 125 is distinguished by its lightweight frame, outstanding suspension, spacious seat, innovative amenities, and overall riding characteristics. However, since prices have not yet been disclosed, I am unable to comment on whether it is a value-for-money proposition. Nevertheless, it offers a strong substitute for competitors like the TVS Jupiter 125 and Honda Activa 125.
